How many people can Pangdean accommodate?
The Old Barn at Pangdean comfortably seats up to 190 people. It is a very large space and parties of less than 50 could look a little lost in it. The Stable is ideal for 20 – 50 people seated. In total, for the informal part of the evening, 300 guests is the maximum.
Nicky started Hunger Pangs Event Caterers and using Pangdean as an event venue in 1990.
Yes, we are licensed to hold wedding ceremonies at Pangdean in the Old Barn and Stable.
Yes, subject only of course to the weather. By law, you must be married in a solid structure with a roof. It is actually your guests who will be outside. That said, we have built a beautiful oak shingled building specifically for weddings to be held in our beautiful garden. Our gazebo nestles into our 500 year old Mulberry Tree and even has branches of the apple trees growing through the roof! It affords fantastic views across the garden and up onto the South Downs beyond. It has been named Mulberry Lodge and it has become hugely popular. A dedicated lighting and sound system ensure that you will be both seen and heard. The ceremony table is made from a 300 year old piece of Elm and the front is covered in coppiced horse chestnut. Please see the Mulberry Lodge page on this site under ‘The Venue’ button.
We have alcohol and music licences that run until 1.00am. However, we recommend that we discuss the ideal duration of the day so that the party finishes ‘on a high’!
Most definitely, yes. We do not charge corkage. We will store, chill and serve for you. The cost savings to you are considerable and we would ask you to offset these savings against the charge to hire the venue. You also have the option to install a cash-bar for the evening.
No. The venue and the catering are too closely linked for us to risk our reputation in this way.
Yes, we can provide a list of people who have worked here at Pangdean. Please use the “Directory” button on this website. We do not actually recommend anyone and you should make your own arrangements direct with them. Nor do we accept commission on any of the external services provided.
Yes. There are no hidden extra charges at Pangdean. We do not include floristry, music or alcohol, but virtually everything else is included and will be clearly shown in your quotation.
No. There are no hidden extra charges.
Yes, there is a field for camping for a few guests, it is free of charge but it should be emphasised it is a sleeping facility and is not for carrying on the party until 4.00am! There are cloakrooms (but not a shower) specifically for campers.
Yes, entirely at the vehicle owner’s risk, and free of charge.
Yes, we regularly work away from Pangdean. All our professional catering equipment is fully mobile and we can set up a fully functioning kitchen almost anywhere. The same extremely high hygiene standards apply wherever we are working.
Nicky likes to be at every event. She is usually overseeing the kitchens and the food. We have two Event Managers, one of which will be with you throughout your reception to ensure your day runs to plan.
On balance, the answer is usually no. We will agree a detailed running order for your event and our events manager makes sure that timings are adhered to. He will also be happy to make announcements on your behalf.
For evening guests we can provide a Hog roast, a BBQ, curries, Thai curry, bacon and scrambled eggs, a stunning ploughman’s platter, even bacon butties. All are treated with the same care and attention as the main meal and only the very best ingredients are used.
We regularly cater for vegans, vegetarians, gluten free, allergies and special diets, we simply need to know at least a week in advance what the requirements are and who they are for.
Pangdean is open all year round and winter weddings are very popular indeed. The barn has been completely re-roofed and is fully insulated. All guest areas are fully heated and very comfortable. Obviously, the use of the garden is usually not practical but the milking parlour and barn entrance area can be used for canapés and drinks.
Yes, Fridays especially and even midweek weddings are becoming more and more popular.
Children are very welcome at Pangdean. The garden is equipped with our own children’s toys and can be used by guests’ children, under their parents’ supervision and at their own risk.
We set up the drinks reception in the Stable and the entrance to the Old Barn.
One of the advantages of the farm is that there is easy access for large vehicles throughout the complex. Buses and coaches have plenty of room to manoeuvre.
Within sensible limits, no, none.
We are afraid not. This is a farm and our neighbours are farmers too. There is too much livestock around us and we cannot frighten them. We hope you understand.
Yes. Pangdean’s reputation for producing outstanding food usually makes a tasting unnecessary but on occasion a full tasting is requested. Since we are not a hotel or restaurant we would need to prepare this completely from scratch so we ask for a £100 (+VAT) contribution towards costs for this. If it is simply to help you decide between say, a choice of two sauces, with your main course, this would be free of charge.
Unfortunately not. With so many barns, stables and other farm buildings around us and the proximity to the A23, we have decided that the burning element and the wire frame of these hot air lanterns make them just too much of a hazard for Pangdean.
We can suggest people that can. But you might be interested in our own speciality, meringue or profiterole towers. These make a stunning, reasonably priced alternative to a traditional wedding cake. Please ask for further details.
Yes. We would like to be kept informed of your plans and how they might impinge on our buildings.
Please see the Directory page on this website for some suggestions.
No. Every event is treated individually and menus are suggested appropriate to your tastes and your budget. Some menu suggestions are available in the ‘Food’ section on this website and we can send you suggestions and ideas so that you may pick and choose..
Cost depends on two main factors, the time of the year and the day of the week. A mid-summer Saturday will be the most expensive while a mid-week winter date less so. This can be fully discussed with you by telephone.
We are governed by the legislation. There can be no smoking in any of the buildings. Provision is made for smokers to smoke in the courtyard and a gazebo can be erected in the event of poor weather.
It is almost invariably much less expensive to hire Pangdean than erect a marquee in your garden. It is certainly a lot easier on the hosts to be at Pangdean where every last detail is taken care of, including the clearing up which is a job that should never be underestimated!
Yes. We can run a pay bar for you. There is no set up fee and drinks are sold at very reasonable prices. Please ask for a bar list.
We are 5 miles North of Brighton, literally just off the A23. Do check out our directions page and please do not rely on your Sat Nav to find the farm entrance!
Pangdean includes some troughs of ivy and some olive trees to help you decorate the venue. It is a stunning building and leaves you free to decide how much floristry you really need or wish to budget for.
Absolutely not! You may engage whomever you please. It is your event after all.
It is, but unless you want a complicated themed affair, it is probably not absolutely necessary. Nicky and the event managers have lots of experience that you may freely tap into and are always pleased to advise.
£1,000 (+VAT) for a larger function and £500 (+VAT) for Stableer events. It is not refundable in the event of cancellation and we would refer you to our Terms and Conditions page on this website.
Yes, all major credit cards, including American Express, are accepted. Please note that we do levy a 2% charge for payment by credit card while bank debit card transactions are free of charge.
Yes, please supply your own music. Our PA system copes well with this, and also the lapel microphones for the speeches and announcements, but it does not go loud enough for dancing later in the evening. DJ’s and bands would of course bring their own equipment.
None. Eight weeks before the event you will receive an itemised costing and the only variables will be for the amount of soft drink, punches and table waters consumed. There is also a breakages clause, but this is rarely implemented.
No. Any prices quoted to you exclude VAT. When written, this is clearly shown.
Yes. We have a very substantial comprehensive policy with the NFU, including £10 million public liability cover.
Not at all. All roads and farmyard areas are fully metalled and in very good repair.
Mainly in size and the number of seated guest they can accommodate. The Stable will seat up to 70 guests and has a very informal, low key atmosphere. The Old Barn can seat up to 180 guests and is a very impressive space, with more grandeur and gravitas about it than The Stable.
